Scholes claims one United player ‘obviously’ disagrees with ‘something’ Ten Hag is doing after post-match gesture

As Manchester United traipsed off the pitch at Selhurst Park following their 4-0 thrashing on Monday, Antony was spotted holding an animated conversation with Mason Mount and Andre Onana.

The Brazilian made his third consecutive start in the absence of Marcus Rashford, with Rasmus Hojlund leading the line and Alejandro Garnacho deployed on the opposite flank. None of the trio were able to make an impact on the game, though.

Now on course to finish the Premier League campaign with just one goal and one assist, Antony, who featured for an hour on the night, continues to cement his place on the list of United’s truly disastrous signings. There, he joins the likes of Angel Di Maria, Alexis Sanchez and Memphis Depay.

He was left visibly frustrated upon the final blow of the referee’s whistle in South London, which is ironic given how many times the Old Trafford faithful have been left pulling their hair out over his wasteful antics.

Sky Sports showed Antony covering his mouth while seemingly ranting to his teammates, although Mount and Onana appeared reluctant to get drawn into the exchange knowing that cameras were surrounding them.

It, of course, raised questions over why Antony was left so riled up, and Paul Scholes believes Erik ten Hag had something to do with it.

Scholes weighs in on Antony’s annoyance

The club legend shared his opinion while on Optus Sports’ panel, saying: “He is saying something to Mason Mount he is obviously not happy with. Mason Mount seems the quietest out of the three of them.

“What’s that going to do? I didn’t see any of them communicating on the football pitch. That doesn’t look good. I don’t think that’s good for the manager.”

“People are obviously talking and saying things he [Antony] doesn’t agree with,” Scholes continued. “When he’s putting those three fingers up, maybe he’s saying we should be having three in midfield – why don’t we have three there?

“I don’t know, we have no idea because we can’t lip read. But there is obviously a problem there, and they obviously disagree with something the manager is doing.”
