Ex-Penn State football captain makes transfer portal pick

After rising into the national discussion under Jamey Chadwell, Coastal Carolina went 8-5 last season under new head coach Tim Beck. 

A three-star recruit, Malick Meiga was the top prospect from Quebec in the 2020 cycle, according to 247Sports. However, his role as a wide receiver was limited, finishing his Nittany Lion career with nine receptions for 106 yards and a score. Meiga made the most significant impact on special teams and in the locker room, being named a team captain for Penn State football last season. 

Meiga was one of three wide receivers to enter the transfer portal this spring, joining KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Malik McClain. Redshirt freshman receiver Carmelo Taylor is also reportedly no longer with the program for undisclosed reasons.

Penn State football lineman confirms transfer portal entry

Also on Wednesday, ex-Penn State football lineman Golden Israel-Achumba officially announced that he was entering the transfer portal. Israel-Achumba’s entrance into the portal was reported last Thursday, which was the deadline for filing the necessary paperwork for graduate transfers.

“I have officially entered the transfer portal as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility left,” Israel-Achumba wrote on social media. “I want to thank Penn State for the experience.”

All told, Penn State football lost eight players during the spring transfer portal window. Five of those departures — Israel-Achumba, King Mack, David Kency, Malik McClain, and London Montgomery — were announced last Thursday.
